Having your property photographed can be a daunting experience, particularly if it is your first time utilising professional photography to showcase your home in its best light.
Below, we have a number of popular frequently asked questions and answers to help you out, along with a link to our free guide on how to prepare your property for photography.
How long will professional property photography take?
How long the photography session will take is dependent on a number of factors, including the scale of the property (both inside and out), the level of preparation carried out prior to the appointment, and the package selected by either yourself or the estate agent managing your sale.
As a good rule-of-thumb, you should block out half a day (usually 3-4 hours) for photography of anything under 6 beds or with up to 1 acre of land, and put aside the whole day for anything on a larger scale.
Does the sun need to be shining for the photography session?
Whilst we all love a good sunny day, blue skies and fluffy clouds, the reality of life in the West Country is that such perfect days are often few-and-far between. Thankfully, there is no requirement for the sun to be shining to showcase your property - lighting and photography techniques will be used show your house in all its bright and airy splendour, whilst the exterior can be enhanced in post-production with blue skies.
Rain, on the other hand, is good cause to cancel a shoot and re-book for a later, drier date.
Do I need to be present at the time of photography?
Whether you wish to be present or out of the house at the time of photography taking place is an entirely personal choice, and will not affect the process or the outcome of the photography session.
You can either remain in the property and simply change rooms when the room that you're in needs to be photographed, or you may choose to leave your property with the photographer. A good balance between the two is to sit in the garden and make the most of the summer sun when its available, and then switch to indoors when the external photographs are taken.
How should I best prepare my house for photography?
The best way to prepare your house for photography is to treat it as if you have guests coming over - tidy up, hide the clutter and give it a good cleaning! For more in-depth advice, read our free guide below.
Do I need to have my home professionally styled for photography?
Absolutely not - if you're showcasing a holiday let, boutique hotel or have a multi-million pound property, then perhaps having a professional style your property would be a good investment, but this is not required; your property simply needs to be clean and tidy for photography.
Is there anything we need to let the photographer know prior to our appointment?
Property photography uses flash lighting - please let your photographer know beforehand if any members of the household are photo-sensitive.
It is always useful to know beforehand if there are any pets in the house, or any tenants in-situ.
